The battalion was formed on August 26, 1939, in Hofgeismar, within Wehrkreis IX (Military District IX). Initially, it consisted of three companies stationed in Wetzlar, also located in Wehrkreis IX, and was under the command of the Commander of the Signal Troops IX. On October 5, 1942, all units of the battalion were consolidated in Wetzlar. Finally, on November 1, 1944, it was merged with the Signals Training Battalion 9 to form the Signals Replacement and Training Battalion 9.
