Wehrmacht Demjansk Campaign Shield – 1942

This is an original Demjansk Shield awarded to personnel of the German Wehrmacht who participated in the defense and airlift operation of the Demjansk Pocket on the Eastern Front in 1942. Authorized on April 25, 1943, the shield commemorates the defense of the strategically important area near Demjansk, where German troops were encircled by Soviet forces and held out through a major airlift operation.

The shield is made of stamped metal and features the prominent “DEMJANSK” inscription above an eagle clutching a swastika, with crossed swords and a central aircraft representing the airlift. The date “1942” is displayed at the bottom. This example shows excellent detail and is in very good condition, with one attachment point visible on the reverse.

This shield is a significant collectible for historians and military collectors, representing a key moment in the Eastern Front campaigns of World War II.
