Wehrmacht Krim Campaign Shield (Krimschild)
The Krim Campaign Shield, or Krimschild, was a German military campaign award instituted during World War II. Authorized on 25 July 1942 by Field Marshal Walther von Reichenau, it was awarded to Wehrmacht personnel (Army, Luftwaffe, and Navy) who participated in the military operations in the Crimea (Krim) region from September 1941 to July 1942.
The shield is made of stamped metal and features:
- A stylized German eagle clutching a swastika in its talons (a common motif of Nazi-era insignia).
- The dates 1941 and 1942, indicating the duration of the campaign.
- A map outline of the Crimean Peninsula with the word KRIM prominently displayed.
- Issued on a field-grey wool or cloth backing, which was to be sewn onto the upper left sleeve of the uniform.
Recipients were required to:
- Serve in the Crimea for a minimum of 90 days,
- Be wounded during the campaign,
- Or participate in at least one major engagement.
It was one of several campaign shields awarded during the war to recognize participation in specific theatres of combat.
