NSDAP Member Armband
The armband was a standardized item of clothing worn by members of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP) during the period of Nazi rule in Germany (1933–1945). It served as a political insignia and was one of the most recognizable symbols of the regime.
The armband typically featured:
- A red cotton or wool background,
- A white circular field at the center,
- A black swastika oriented diagonally within the circle.
This design closely reflected the national flag of Nazi Germany adopted in 1935, which itself was rooted in earlier party symbolism dating back to the 1920s.
Use and Regulation:
- The armband was compulsory for all official party members, including administrative workers, local party functionaries, and leadership staff.
- It was worn on the left upper arm of uniforms, civilian clothes, or party dress during rallies, parades, and official functions.
- Variants existed for specific party organizations (e.g., Hitler Youth, SA, SS), but the basic member version was one of the earliest and most widely issued.
