Luftwaffe NCO Shoulder Boards - Unterfeldwebel
This is a matched pair of mid-war (circa 1940–1943) Luftwaffe shoulder boards, commonly referred to as M40/M43 pattern. These insignia were worn on the field tunic by non-commissioned officers and officer candidates serving within fliegende personal (Pilots / Observers / Paratroopers), identifiable by the distinctive yellow piping — the branch color (Waffenfarbe) associated with flying personnel.
Each board is constructed from standard field-grey wool with silver NCO Tresse (braid) outlining the edges, indicating the wearer's NCO status. Additionally, both boards are fitted with double silver cords near the base — a feature indicating the rank of Unterfeldwebel (Sergeant) and Offiziers-Anwärter (officer candidate). These slip-on straps, equipped with integral tongues, would have been attached through shoulder loops on the tunic.
Condition-wise, the boards exhibit unweared condition offering an excellent study example of authentic mid-war German military insignia.
