Luftwaffe M38 Fallschirmjäger Helmet (Model ET66, Lot Number 722)
This is an original M38 Luftwaffe Fallschirmjäger helmet, the standard issue for German airborne troops (paratroopers) during the Second World War. The helmet was manufactured by Eisenhüttenwerke Thale (ET) and is marked with a shell size ET66 and lot number 722, identifying the production batch and factory origin. The interior bears a Luftwaffe acceptance dome stamp, confirming its official issue status.
Unlike the more common Wehrmacht helmets (M35, M40, M42), the M38 was uniquely engineered for airborne use. It featured a lower profile and eliminated the projecting front visor and side flanges, which reduced the risk of injury during parachute landings. The helmet design also included four riveted vent/liner bolts and a specially padded liner system (not visible here), tailored for shock absorption.
This example appears to be in field-worn condition, with its original dark Luftwaffe blue/gray combat paint intact and showing signs of service wear. Though the original single Luftwaffe decal has been removed or worn away (common late-war practice or post-war alteration), its outline may be faintly discernible depending on lighting and angle.
The helmet represents the elite status and operational role of the Fallschirmjäger, who saw combat in campaigns such as the invasions of Norway, the Low Countries, Crete, Italy, and defensive actions later in the war.
