DLV Sleeve Eagle
Original DLV (Deutscher Luftsportverband) sleeve eagle, as worn on early German aviation and gliding uniforms during the mid-1930s, prior to the formal establishment of the Luftwaffe. This example is a classic embroidered cloth insignia, featuring the stylized eagle with outstretched wings above a circular wreath, executed in light thread on a bluish-grey wool backing.
The badge shows period-correct construction, with fine machine embroidery and a soft wool base typical of DLV and early aviation organization insignia. The reverse displays correct stitching and material wear consistent with age and use, making it a strong, untouched example for collectors.
DLV insignia are increasingly sought after due to their transitional role between civilian aviation organizations and the early Luftwaffe, and authentic sleeve eagles such as this are becoming harder to find.
