WWII German Iron Cross 2nd Class (EK II) 1939 – Unmarked with Ribbon
Original World War II German Iron Cross Second Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse), dated 1939, complete with its correct original suspension ribbon. This is an unmarked example, as commonly encountered among wartime-produced EK2 awards, and shows all the correct construction features expected of an authentic period piece.
The cross features a magnetic iron core with the characteristic blackened finish, framed by a silver-finished three-piece construction. The obverse displays the raised swastika with the date 1939, while the reverse is marked 1813, commemorating the original institution of the Iron Cross during the Napoleonic Wars. The suspension ring and ribbon loop are intact and correctly proportioned.
The ribbon retains strong colors in the correct black-white-red-white-black pattern, showing honest wear consistent with age. Overall condition is very good, with light patina and surface wear that adds to the medal’s authenticity and character.
The Iron Cross 2nd Class was one of the most iconic and widely awarded German decorations of the Second World War, issued for acts of bravery or military merit in combat. Complete examples with ribbon remain highly collectible and are a cornerstone of any serious WWII German medal collection.
