LW Emergency Flight Ration Tin
Original Luftwaffe Absprungverpflegung container, a survival ration box issued to German aircrew during the Second World War. These containers were designed to carry emergency food supplies for pilots and aircrew who were forced to bail out over hostile or remote territory.
The container is manufactured from black-painted steel and retains its original field-used finish with honest wear and patina. A wire handle and latch system allowed the box to be securely attached to parachute harness equipment or survival gear.
The lid is clearly stamped:
“Dose f. Absprungverpflegung
10-6068A-1
FL 415617”
The FL-number (Fliegnummer) identifies the item as official Luftwaffe flight equipment, part of the standardized aviation supply system used for pilot gear and aircraft equipment.
These ration containers typically held high-calorie emergency rations, designed to help downed aircrew survive until rescue or return to friendly lines.

Historical Background
During WWII, Luftwaffe pilots were issued various survival and emergency equipment in case they were forced to abandon their aircraft. Items such as signal mirrors, maps, medical supplies, and emergency food rations were stored in compact containers that could be carried with parachute equipment.
The Absprungverpflegung container formed part of this survival system and was particularly important for pilots operating over remote areas or enemy territory, where survival after bailout could depend on the equipment carried.
Collector Notes
Original FL-numbered Luftwaffe equipment is highly collectible among WWII aviation collectors. Survival equipment pieces such as this ration container are less commonly encountered than flight helmets or goggles, making them desirable display items within Luftwaffe collections.
The clearly visible FL-number and designation stamp add to the authenticity and historical interest of this piece.
