This is a miniature version of the Krim Shield (Krimschild), issued as a 16mm stickpin for private wear on civilian clothing by German personnel who had earned the full-size campaign award during World War II.

The Krim Shield was instituted on 25 July 1942 by Field Marshal Erich von Manstein, commander of Army Group South, to honor members of the Wehrmacht (Army, Luftwaffe, and Kriegsmarine) who participated in the Crimean Campaign (Krimfeldzug) between September 1941 and July 1942. This engagement was a key part of the German southern offensive on the Eastern Front.
