DLV Flyer’s Knife by Gebrüder Heller – Rare Balloon Man Maker

€ 1.795,00

An excellent and highly collectible original DLV (Deutscher Luftsportverband) Flyer’s Knife manufactured by the rare and sought-after maker Gebrüder Heller, identified by their distinctive "Balloon Man" trademark. DLV and early NSFK edged weapons have become increasingly difficult to find in original, untouched condition, particularly those produced by uncommon manufacturers.
The Deutscher Luftsportverband (DLV) was established in the early 1930s as Germany's national air sports organization and served as a precursor to the Luftwaffe. Through gliding clubs and aviation training programs, the DLV played a significant role in the development of German military aviation prior to World War II.

This attractive example retains its original nickel-plated fittings to the pommel, crossguard, and scabbard. The grip and scabbard are covered in the original blue Moroccan leather, which remains in very good condition with only minor handling marks. Both enamel emblems are intact, retaining excellent color with no damage or restoration.

The blade is free from significant damage and remains unsharpened, showing traces of its original cross-grain finish. There is some light age-related surface clouding, typical for an edged weapon of this age. The original blue leather buffer washer is still present.

The scabbard is complete with its original short leather hanger and attachment clip. The leather has naturally darkened over time but remains strong and fully intact. Both the crossguard and scabbard throat are stamped with matching inspection marks, and the throat additionally bears the stamped number A170.
